DLF Training FAQs

Find answers to some of our most common questions relating to DLF training courses. If you still can’t find the information you are looking for, please contact us.

What are the prerequisites for the courses?

Each course will assume a level of knowledge – these can be found on the information pages for each course.

You do not have to complete courses in sequence, they are dependent on your knowledge and skills, for example; a Level One course is not a prerequisite to be able to take a Level Two course.

If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact us.

What assessments will I have to complete to pass my course?

Each course is different and assessments are designed to test that you have learnt the required outcomes from the course. The higher the level of the course, the more complex the assessments might be.

Examples of types of assessments might be:

Level one – Learners are expected to be able to identify or give examples of something. Assessments might include multiple choice questions with simple short answers.

Level two – Learners are expected to be able to describe and define something. Assessments might include multiple choice questions with descriptions as answers or questions requiring short written answers.

Level three – Learners are expected to clarify or evaluate and review something. Assessments might include case studies and will require the learner to write giving reasons for their choices.

Level four - Learners are expected to have a greater level of knowledge and should be able to critically appraise something. Assessments might include case studies and will require the learner to justify choices.

Level five – Learners are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of the subject area and can provide new ideas based on learning. Assessments might include essay-based questions and learners should be able to undertake research to support their answers.

The courses do not require learners to have excellent English language skills but language should be appropriate and clear. You will not be marked down for poor spelling or grammar.

In most cases you will be given two attempts at all assessments and the Trainer will support you through the process. We do our best to ensure that all learners feel able to complete any assignments before attempting them.

We cannot give you details of the assessments in advance of the course and you cannot work with colleagues to complete them, unless agreed in advance by DLF Training staff for example to support a disability.

How long do I have to complete the assignments / course?

This does depend on the course and will be clearly shown in the learning portal, on any booking documentation and on any paperwork given in classroom sessions, however; most assignments will require submission within three weeks and most e-learning sessions will expect completion within eight weeks of starting.

What do I do if I need an extension?

We do not grant extensions, apart from in extreme circumstances such as:

Sudden unplanned illness requiring a doctor’s note

Sudden unplanned illness or death of a loved one or someone for whom you are the sole carer

We find that most people who complete their assignments immediately after the training will perform better as the information is still fresh in their minds.

We also expect our learners to prepare for the training before commencing, therefore any workplace commitments or annual leave should be considered before starting.

If you do need an extension, please email training@dlf.org.uk with your request.

Can I fail the course?

If your course is accredited, we do have to check you have learnt the required elements to pass.

Please do not worry, we will support and work with you to do this. Learners will be given two attempts to pass the training and will be given clear feedback and support to resubmit any assignments required.

How long does it take for my Trainer to mark assignments?

Our Trainers regularly access the learning platform to mark learners’ work. We do ask that you allow at least seven days for work to be marked. If you have attended an online course, your work will be marked within seven days of your submission date, for face-to-face courses, this will be seven days from your assignment deadline date (three weeks from the last day of your course).

How long should it take to complete the course / assignment?

This will vary dependent on the course and information about this can be found on the course pages.

Will DLF Training be introducing new training courses?

We are in the process of writing and accrediting a range of new modules. We also offer tailored courses to meet your specific needs. Please get in touch with us to discuss this further.
NB: Setting up a tailored course may incur a cost, increase the length of the course or change the accreditation value.

Can I complete the course without the accreditation?

We would always recommend that you complete the course with the accreditation; however we can offer bespoke courses that do not require the learner to pass any assessments. Please do contact us for more information.

What time do your training courses start and finish?

Most face-to-face courses run from 09:30 until 16:30. Trainer-led webinars are normally at 10:00 or 14:00.
The exact timings of each course can be found in your learning portal.

I haven’t received my log in details for the learning portal?

Sorry for this. It can be caused by a number of things but the most common is due to spam filters. Please check your spam / junk mail for a registration email.

The learning portal site can be found at https://dlftraining.docebosaas.com.

Your username is the email you requested to register with and you can request to re-set your password.

If you are still struggling to gain access, please do get in touch on 0300 123 3084 or email training@dlf.org.uk

The learning portal won’t open on my computer?

Some workplace IT systems restrict access to some sites. Contact your IT administrator to see if this is the problem.

The platform does work better using an up-to-date internet browser and works on most browsers but we have found Chrome to be the best.

The webpage for the portal is https://dlftraining.docebosaas.com if you are still having problems, please do get in touch.

I am trying to do the e-learning but the learning portal isn’t working?

Some courses may require you to watch videos or stream content that is large in size. You should check that your internet source can stream videos without difficulty. There are also helpful hints and tips on how to navigate the portal at the bottom of each of the course pages.

There is also an app you can download and use to access some of the content. The app is free to download and is called “Go Learn”.

If you are still having difficulty, please either use the question and answer function on the learning portal or contact training@dlf.org.uk.

Where are your face-to-face training courses held?

We run sessions across the country and are always looking for new venues. We are also happy to come to a venue you provide – please contact us to discuss.

Do you provide lunch?

No, we do not provide lunch. We have found that most delegates prefer to leave the building to take a break from their learning environment.

Is there parking available at my training site?

Full details including parking and travel options can be found on your learning portal.

What happens if I wish to cancel my place on a course?

If delegates are subsequently unable to attend a face-to-face course, they should inform us in writing as soon as possible as cancellation charges will apply dependent on notice given (see below). Wherever possible, delegates will be offered the opportunity to transfer to another date free of charge.

Delegates who decline this option will be charged as follows:

More than 28 days prior to the course start date – admin fee (£40) plus VAT

Between 14-28 days prior to course start date – 50% course fee

Less than 14 days prior to the course start date – full course fee

All E-learning courses are non-refundable once the learner has been registered to the learning portal.

What happens if my organisation has not paid for my place by the time the course starts?

Before the course starts we need either:

The full payment

A purchase order (PO) if being invoiced

If this is not received the learner may be refused entry. For E-learning a learner will not be registered to the system until the above has been satisfied.

Please note, if invoices are not paid within the payment terms, learners certificates may be withheld.

What happens if I am running late?

If you are running late for a face to face course, please call the training department on 0300 123 3084 to let us know. The Trainers can refuse entry to anyone arriving more than 30 minutes late and you will need to re-book onto another course. This is at the Trainers’ discretion on the day.

We would always recommend carefully checking the journey times and travel status on the day of the course and leaving in plenty of time to ensure you arrive at the training venue in good time.

We understand that sometimes things happen that are out of your control and this may impact on your ability to get to the training venue on time. However, arriving after the start could mean you miss out on important course content and late arrivals can cause disruption to other learners.

For webinar or other virtual based training, if you have technical difficulties accessing the session, please let us know as soon as possible and we will try and assist you. However please note that late entrants may be denied access.

What do I do if I haven’t received a certificate?

Once all your assignments have been submitted and the deadline has passed your work will be sent to the assessors. You should hear back within one week of the deadline to say whether you have passed or are required to submit additional information.

Once this process is complete, your work is then moderated, this can take up to three weeks.

You should receive your certificate within six weeks of the deadline for submissions. If you have not received it after the six week period please contact us at training@dlf.org.uk

During Covid-19 restrictions, we are only able to issue certificates via email.

I've lost my certificate. What should I do?

Replacement certificates can be requested from the accrediting body, OCN London currently at a cost of £35. To find out more please visit ‘OCN London replacement’.
